Chris Gilchrist is a long time resident of Waiheke Island with a passion for dogs and their well-being. Pooch in Paradise has been running for over 12 years and continues to grow. “Too many owners and families don’t realise how much work goes into looking after a dog. I take all the guilt out of their life!” Chris says. “I can provide fun, outdoor adventures and exercise and a happy home for dogs when needed.”
Pooch in Paradise developed from dog walks and now has a very successful boutique business. Chris discovered early on she had an ability to form a close rapport with dogs and develop a strong happy bond. “The island dogs need to be outside on pack runs for socialisation and exercise. Just like humans, they get depressed if they are home alone. They need fun and adventures just like we do,” she says.
Chris provides a special all-inclusive dog service that is top quality and reassuring for pet owners. It has been quite a journey for Chris since getting a border terrier for the family 12 years ago. She took the training and socialisation of Buster as a puppy seriously. He obeys hand and voice commands. More importantly he reads her energy which is calm, firm but fun. Since starting Pooch in Paradise Chris continues to work with dogs from all breeds, backgrounds and temperaments. That unseen energy she uses on dogs means they are happy, calm and over the moon to return each visit.
